The hybrid Chevrolet Volt drove to the mountain 4,300 meters high

As part of testing prior to launch girbida Chevrolet Volt into production, the prototype of this model under its own power drove to the hotel's Summit House, located at an altitude of 4302 meters on Mount Pikes Peak, Colorado. According to one of the engineers Chevrolet, John Blanchard, the car has exceeded the expectations of developers, having overcome all the difficulties encountered during the 30-kilometer road leading to the summit. This was reported in a blog dedicated to this model. Because of the high-load when climbing a mountain power plant on Chevrolet Volt uses a mode in which the batteries feeding the traction motor, charged by the gasoline engine. But on the slopes of the engineers were able to test a system for energy recovery. According to Blanchard, in this situation due to inhibition of the generator brakes "Volta" warming up much less than on other machines. Chevrolet Volt is equipped with an electric motor rated at 150 horsepower and a gasoline engine with 100 horsepower, which is only used to recharge the batteries. During the stay, "V" can be recharged from an ordinary electrical outlet. On fully charged batteries without the assistance of the gasoline engine range of the machine is 64 kilometers. Pikes Peak on Mount traditionally held competitions to raise the top speed. The length of the race track, numbering 156 turns, is 19 miles. The first race took place on the mountain in 1916.
