General Motors is betting on crossovers

The American concern General Motors plans over the next four years to actively develop models that can be classified as "crossovers." During this time, the number of such cars in the lineup marks belonging to GM, and planned to double to bring up to 14 pieces. Now the U.S. and Canada sold seven such vehicles: Chevrolet Equinox and HHR, Pontiac Torrent and Vibe, Buick Rendezvous, Cadillac SRX and the Saturn VUE. According to experts General Motors, this year in the U.S. will be sold around 2.5 million crossovers, and by 2010 this figure should rise to 3.5 million units. Moreover, the demand for such cars is growing not only in North America. A similar surge of consumer interest is also observed in Asia and Europe. According to the GM, rapid time to market for new SUVs will concern to keep the leading position in this segment. Now the debut prepared immediately three new models, built on a common platform that Opel Frontera, Chevrolet (Holden) S3X, and a similar development from Suzuki. Later the same General Motors is not going to be limited to low-cost models, but on the contrary, is planning to develop an SUV for a premium.
