GM wants to produce cars without Russian partners

The American corporation General Motors, might open its own production of cars in Russia, the newspaper "Vedomosti". According to the newspaper, the company is negotiating with the administration of St. Petersburg on the possible construction of a factory near the city. It is assumed that the Russian plant General Motors will produce cars Chevrolet DAT (Daewoo Automotive Technology). Today in Russia sold six of these models - it's Chevrolet Spark, Lanos, Aveo, Lacetti, Evanda, and minivan Rezzo. Car brand Chevrolet has come in Russia. The bulk of joint ventures accounted for "GM-AvtoVAZ", which makes Chevrolet Niva SUVs and sedans Chevrolet Viva, corresponding to the previous generation of German Opel Astra. However, it seems that the further development of production no one's interest: profitability are not satisfied with the new management of AvtoVAZ and GM did not want to share their technology with a potential competitor. Also, some Chevrolet models are collected at the Kaliningrad factory "Avtotor", but the power of the enterprise are insufficient to meet the needs of the Russian market. It is likely that reduction in the production GM vehicles around the world will allow the company to transport the equipment to shut down plants in the enterprise in Russia. This will help save money, experts say. Earlier it was reported that the administration of St. Petersburg is in talks with three automakers. Most likely, it could be a Nissan, DaimlerChrysler and the Chinese company Great Wall.
