GM and AvtoVAZ have been working on a new base model, which should appear in 2009

As part of the general agreement between GM and AvtoVAZ is currently continuing work on the plant, not only engines, but also on the new base model, which should be placed on production in 2009. This was announced by Chairman of the Board of Directors of OAO "AvtoVAZ" Vladimir Kadannikov in an interview with RBC. As stated by the parties earlier this year, setting a new model for the pipeline venture is planned, and will begin production of the export version of the Chevrolet Niva. In early March, will start production at AvtoVAZ new body, which will install the power unit FAM-1. According to Vladimir Kadannikov, pre-production was very complicated, so they had to make major changes in the structure of the body, the suspension of the car. The export version will be equipped with FAM-1 engine and gearbox Aisin.
