Chevrolet Niva will replace the car LADA NIVA in Antarctica

In 1989, AvtoVAZ was decided to conduct long-term test car LADA NIVA in extreme conditions of Antarctica. In 1990, the production car, past some minor technical revisions, was sent to the Russian polar station "Bellingshausen" and became the first wheeled vehicles in Antarctica. After tests at the request of LADA NIVA scientists remained at the station and continued to operate. In the temperature range from -54 to 4 degrees, it was transporting various goods, including scientific equipment, towing vessels, helping to provide medical assistance, the connection between the neighboring polar stations, met with guests of Antarctica. Over the next few years for all Antarctic stations, there are many cars and trucks, but LADA NIVA due to its cross-country did not lag behind other more powerful machines, and many cars and superior. Departures on Antarctica for more than 40 thousand kilometers, in May 2005, NIVA-polyarnitsa returned to their homeland. When choosing a car again, scientists prefer the domestic design - "Chevrolet-Niva" - which is inherited from the LADA NIVA high throughput and reliability.
